The Clinical Assistant Trainee provides care to infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults and elderly in a rural ambulatory care clinic. Essential job responsibilities include rooming patients, performing clinical duties, maintaining lab and exam rooms, quality assurance activities and demonstrating customer service skills.   In addition, Clinical Assistants perform administrative and data management tasks.  Information is written in patients’ chart along with patients’ medical history.  This position works closely with providers giving support such as rooming patients, perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests, answering phones, processing provider orders, and participation in training processes and staff meetings.  Must demonstrate good judgment and be self-starter, but works under close supervision of provider.   This position directly supports and assists the rural clinic provider. This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow in order to maximize the provider’s time and to insure access to health care for patients in rural communities. This is a job progression consisting of four job levels, designed to provide progressively more technical and independent work experiences to participants as part of the overall assessment of their ability and capability.  Promotion between job levels is based on performance on prior assignments, required certifications, and the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments.  *Independent performance of all clinical duties will be based on satisfactory completion of competency assessments.

This position will be based in one of the SEARHC Rehabilitation Services settings (hospital, outpatient clinic or home health) and will have a varied focus depending on the location and the local need.  The primary focus will be to provide general Physical Therapy (PT) evaluations and treatments which impact patient’s functional abilities. Physical therapy is a core service provided by this healthcare organization.  The therapist performs in a professional manner, respects confidentiality, and demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the Seven Standards for Service Excellence outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual.  Services are to be provided in compliance with hospital standards, licensure requirements, regulatory and practice standards of Physical Therapy and the national professional guidelines established by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).   Physical therapists are health care professionals responsible and accountable for patient assessment, evaluation, establishing a plan of care and theraputic interventions for a wide range of ages with widely varying diagnoses and skills needs who present with a full spectrum of movement abilities, dysfunctions and complexities. The clinician needs to be able to inform clinical teams regarding decisions that involve physical therapy while taking into consideration consultation provided by other care providers. As patients are seen, recommendations may be made regarding their level of independence and rehabilitation needs which may impact services, care placement and further treatment.  The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.  Documenting standards must be followed for continuity of care and reimbursement for services. The position may require occasional travel off site and out of town to provide services or cover for providers in other SEARHC facilities.

This position supports rehabilitation services providers in their care of SEARHC patients by facilitating patient flow within the rehabilitation department.  Responsibilities include ensuring the clinic space and individual treatment rooms are clean and well stocked, assisting providers with transitioning patients in the clinic, and assisting as directed with therapeutic exercise and other modality treatments. Responsibilities may additionally include assisting the office staff as directed by answering telephones, scheduling appointments, completing patient registration, and checking patients in. Rehabilitation Services is a core service provided by SEARHC.  The performance of this department has a direct and significant impact on the health, function and well-being of patients. Employee is required at all times to perform their duties in a professional manner, respect confidentiality, and demonstrate qualities consistent with the seven Standards for Service Excellence outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual.   This position is required to multi-task while demonstrating excellent customer service skills. The position requires efficiency, accuracy, concentration, and the ability to manage interruptions and competing demands. This job can involve working in a small space, at a demanding pace, with a variety of people and, sometimes, difficult personalities and situations. Good judgement, tact and interpersonal skills are necessary to maintain positive working relationships between patients and co-workers.  This job involves potential risks that the Aide must work to avoid to the extent possible.  Exposure to infectious organisms is possible; use of precautions and appropriate protective equipment is necessary.  Latex may be present in the workplace.

This position is responsible for obtaining all approvals and authorizations prior to processing invoices for payment.
