This may include supervision of daily living activities and facilitation of therapeutic activities and groups.    This position requires an understanding of basic interventions that are effective in the treatment of substance use and/or mental health disorders. This position also requires crisis intervention skills, and effective communication skills for leading educational groups and activities with the residents. Residential Support Specialists must be able to engage in moderate physical recreation activities that support recovery.  SEARHC residential programs are residential living environments with 24-hour staff. Work schedules vary and may include rotation on evenings and weekends.    As an entry-level to intermediate-level direct service position, the RSS position requires a commitment to ongoing professional development in the areas of behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment and recovery. Each RSS will have a professional development track, based on individualized professional development needs. In addition, the RSS will be engaged in a SEARHC-funded, State of Alaska approved, Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) certificate training program.

Balancing complex project and program demands with stakeholder needs, a multi-layered reporting structure, extensive coordination and collaboration, and a large, geographically dispersed service area is challenging. This position must be able to manage multiple project schedules, resources, task details and stakeholder reporting needs. Project development and management activities at both the local and division level include initiating, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, status reporting and close-out of projects. All these factors impact patient care and SEARHC’s overall business and financial positions.   The position may require frequent travel and the development and utilization of effective creative mechanisms for the dissemination of information and receipt of customer feedback. This position may be assigned supervisory responsibility as needed.

This position is based in the Rehabilitation Services Department with a primary focus on providing general Speech - Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments which impact patient’s functional abilities.  Performs in a professional manner, respects confidentiality, and demonstrates qualities endorsed by following the Seven Standards for Service Excellence outlined in the SEARHC Human Resources Manual.  Services are to be provided in compliance with hospital standards, Joint Commission Home Health regulations, Alaska state licensure requirements, regulatory and practice standards of SLP and the national professional guidelines established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.   Speech - Language Pathologists  are health care professionals responsible and accountable for patient assessment, evaluation,  establishing a plan of care and theraputic interventions for a wide range of ages with widely varying diagnosis and skills needs who present with a full spectrum of movement abilities, dysfunctions and complexities.  The clinician needs to be able to inform clinical teams regarding decisions that involve SLP therapy while taking in consideration consultation provided by other care providers.  As patients are seen, recommendations may be made regarding their level of independence and rehabilitation needs which may impact services, care placement and further treatment.  The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.  Documenting and processing interventions appropriately must be followed for continuity of care and reimbursement for services.        This job can involve working in a small space, at a demanding pace, with a variety of people and sometimes difficult personalities and situations; good judgement, tact and personal skills are necessary for positive working relationships between patients and co-workers.  This job involves potential risks that the Therapist must work to avoid to the extent possible.  Exposure to infectious organisms is possible; use of precautions and appropriate protective equipment is necessary.  Latex may be present in the work place.  The job may require repetitive or heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds, with  physically demanding movements and positions; practice of good body mechanics and good judgement is necessary.  Services may be provided in a variety of settings including in-patient, out-patient, off-site locations, communtity events, home visits and remote locations.  There may be  occasional  travel to remote areas by boat or plane for multiple days, possibly in harsh weather.  This job is a covered position in accordance with the Indian Child Protection Act.

The Clinical Assistant II performs all job duties of the Clinical Assistant I.  However, the Clinical Assistant II has gained necessary experience as a Clinical Assistant I or has obtained higher level of certification. This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow to maximize the provider’s time and to insure access to care. Clinical Assistants perform administrative duties, data management and handle basic clinical tasks that are more complex that the Clinical Assistant I, such as performing nebulizer treatments, cast removal, DM foot screenings and other procedures per competency assessments.     This information is written in patients’ chart along with patients’ medical history.  This position works closely with providers giving support such as rooming patients, point of care testing as ordered, answering phones, processing provider orders, data entry, and participation in training processes.  Must be able to make independent decisions within scope of practice based on experience and good judgment, be self-starting, and require little guidance to keep busy.   Applies a more extensive knowledge of medical practice and terminology and judgment based on substantial experience in medical record work.  There is a constant risk of exposure to illness, injury, and disease. There are sometimes large volumes of patients within a short period of time. The Clinical Assistant II must be able to multitask and prioritize duties, as the pace is often rapid with pressure to efficiently complete assignments and keep clinic flow moving well. The Clinical Assistant II must be able to recognize signs and symptoms that may require immediate attention. Requires attention to detail to accurately collect patient data, complete patient documentation, maintain logs, and comply with regulatory requirements. Required to work with staff of different backgrounds and educational levels and the CA II must be able to communicate clearly and be understood.
