The Network Engineer is responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of all SEARHC network communications, including but not limited to LAN/WAN/WLAN, fiber, telecommunications, and unified communications systems. The position will routinely conduct assessments of current systems and work on complex problems where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The Intermediate Engineer completes assigned tasks ranging from routine to moderate complexity related to projects and technical requests, while also providing support in all areas of the departmental service portfolio.
Design and deploy LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VoIP solutions. Includes routers, switches, WAPs, WLAN controllers and other hardware.
Create and maintain detailed network documents and diagrams.
Participate in the daily operational activities reviews and provide day-to-day analysis.
Conduct proactive maintenance and perform independent complex network system troubleshooting.
Utilize experience, technical knowledge, and skills to identify and optimize capacity and performance issues for service availability and performance.
Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, systems, and key processes.
Configure networks to ensure their reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Participate in troubleshooting incidents and problem areas as needed.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Participate in new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to ensure SLA and project performance.
Participates in the evaluation and estimation of routine work requests and minor projects.
Creates, follows, maintains, and updates documentation and checklists to ensure efficiency and consistency.
Uses advanced troubleshooting methodologies that provide efficient, effective resolution and minimize negative impacts.
Will hire at the appopriate level based on experience: Associate, Intermediate or Senior.
Participates and engages in team meetings, team building activities, and other opportunities to strengthen the department.
Executes project-related tasks.
Actively maintains education and cross-training on all departmental areas of expertise. Prepares and attends training when available and appropriate.
Participates in the evaluation and estimation of routine work requests, consortium initiatives or minor projects.

Position requires frequent travel to locations in Southeast Alaska.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a professional business manner and ability to interact with people of differing professional levels.
Basic knowledge in design, setup and configuration of network router/switch and voice technologies from an engineering perspective. LAN protocols to include VLAN, STP, QoS etc. Experience with IP addressing (IPv4 subnet)
Understands network and telecommunications transport technology (SIP, MPLS, ATM, ELAN, PRI, etc.), network routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, HSRP etc.), and network tunneling protocols on a basic level (IPsec, IPsec over GRE etc.)
Basic knowledge in design, setup and configuration of wireless networking using primarily Cisco/Meraki based devices that supports open or secured access.
Basic knowledge of VoIP phone systems.
Working knowledge in configuration and setup of firewalls and Network Security appliances for access to vital business applications, hardware, and software VPNs.
Knowledge of network performance tools used for monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems and outages
