Job Overview:

To provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff at the hospital and other assigned facilities.


  • Patrol campus to monitor for conditions or situations which pose a risk to the safety of people or property. Provide routine comprehensive security services including, but not limited to and in no particular order: assistance with patient restraint; intervention in disruptions by patients; traffic control; guarding and patrolling physical property; escort for visitors and employees; monitoring systems; orienting and monitoring of personnel working in high-risk areas; investigation of incidents; access control; enforcement of visitor policies; respond to emergencies; respirator fit testing; hazard surveillance surveys; participation in emergency drills; and public assistance requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months of relevant security-related experience or demonstration of ability to work without direct supervision preferred.


  • Valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • Approved certification in dealing with aggressive behaviors within 3 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of FEMA Incident Command core competencies within 3 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of security policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities in responding to emergencies.
  • Ability to relate well with patients, visitors and staff.
  • Physical ability to walk rounds, handle violent people.
  • Management of aggressive patients/visitors/staff.
  • Good judgment in handling risk situations.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
