    Job Overview:

    Provide comprehensive health care services to SEARHC beneficiaries on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Participate in an active role as a medical staff member of both the SEARHC and Bartlett Regional Hospital medical staffs.


    • Provide direct medical care to inpatients and outpatients who are SEARHC beneficiaries. Includes obstetrical care and deliveries, and care of highly complex, critical care patients at BRH.  May include home visits.  Provides guidance and advice to ELMC midlevel practitioners as needed for medical care.
    • Participate in quality assurance programs at both the SEARHC Ethel Lund Medical Center and at Bartlett Regional Hospital and maintains active staff membership at both health care facilities.
    • Provide medical education/teaching to visiting students and resident physicians.
    • Participate in ongoing continuing medical education.
    • May provide evaluations at the Southeast Alaska Family Evaluations Child Advocacy Center, for selected physicians.
    • May participate in the BRH community Neonatal Resuscitation Program call rotation, which includes care of non-SEARHC newborn patients, for selected physicians.



    • Medical School completion plus completion of accredited three year family practice residency.  Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (or attainment of certification pending completion of the certification exam, if recently finished family medicine residency).


    • Active, unrestricted Medical License in the State of Alaska.
    • Required certifications:
      • BLS – required
      • NRP – required
      • ALSO – required
      • ACLS- optional
      • ATLS -optional
      • PALS – optional

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Broad based medical education with emphasis on primary care.
    • Knowledge of quality and performance improvement programs, including peer review, clinic and hospital QA programs, medical board requirements to ensure quality physicians.
    • Knowledge of Consultant services and access to tertiary care for patients by using Contract Health Services.
    • Apply medical knowledge and skills to common primary care problems.
    • Communication of medical knowledge and quality based healthcare to patients utilizing cross-cultural skills.
    • Perform minor and major surgical skills that the physician has received adequate training in and remained proficient at that skill.
    • Ability to work effectively with other healthcare professionals and office staff.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/clinic staff.
    • Ability to group problem solve.
